The Contentions in This Legal Battle Hit Closer to Home . . .

Share

Henry Yuen’s legal battles now extend to his personal life.

His ex-wife, Molly Yuen, claims that Henry obtained a “secret” divorce from her in 1987. Molly Yuen is suing Henry for fraud, claiming she learned of the 1987 divorce only in 1997 when she became suspicious that he was involved with another woman.

She now wants a full accounting of Gemstar’s value and believes she is entitled to a share of her ex-husband’s wealth.

In court documents, Molly states that she was “absolutely stunned” to learn of the 1987 divorce and claims that the signature appearing on divorce papers is not hers. Molly, who says her command of English is limited, often lived apart from Henry with the couple’s two sons in New York, Hong Kong and other distant cities.

“Henry is a genius, and he has made millions of dollars,” Molly Yuen says in a statement filed in court. “I realize how clever Henry is, since he has backed me into a situation of having to get out from a judgment that I never knew existed.”

Henry Yuen said “there is no basis” to the charges, but refused further comment. In court filings, his lawyers say Molly Yuen’s suit “is a poorly disguised attempt to intimidate Mr. Yuen and extort a settlement.”
