Fashion Faux Pas at LAPD

Talk about your fashion police.

The Los Angeles Police Department has been voted the best-dressed law enforcement agency in the nation. But shhh, it’s supposed to be a secret.

Chief Bernard C. Parks, anointed by People magazine as one of this year’s 50 most beautiful human beings in the world, let the cat out of the bag two weeks early.

In a public report to his Police Commission bosses, Parks refers to the National Assn. of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors’ award as one of the many department accomplishments during his first year in office.

“I have stressed pride in wearing the LAPD uniform,” Parks proudly wrote in his report.

The official announcement is scheduled to be made in the Aug. 17 edition of Law and Order magazine. The sponsors of the award stressed that they did not want the announcement leaked early.

Oh well.

Cmdr. Dave Kalish said the department is honored by the recognition as the nation’s best-dressed force.

“Our uniform is simple, yet sophisticated,” he said. “But what makes them the most distinguished are the dedicated men and women who wear it.”

But even Kalish conceded that the dark blue suit and silver badge look better on some officers than others.

“The uniform looks especially good on those who have stayed away from the jelly doughnuts.”
