Annual Fiesta
According to my calendar, Thanksgiving falls on the last weekend of November. However, I personally experienced my “Thanksgiving” the last weekend of July during the Santa Clara Chapel’s yearly fiesta.
Besides feeling so grateful for the wonderful volunteers of our chapel’s community, my ripples of praise reach out to the city of Oxnard, the police and fire departments, the Rasmussen Co. contractor at the Rose Avenue / Ventura Freeway project and all of our guests from the communities of El Rio, Oxnard, Nyeland Acres, La Colonia, Ventura and even as far away as Santa Barbara.
Early in the planning it seemed that this year’s fiesta might have to be canceled due to the heavy construction encircling the chapel. However, with the cooperation of all these organizations, we were able as “church and state” to iron out our common challenges.
Together we soon realized that the destinies of the Rose / 101 project and the chapel are inseparably linked. The fiesta event highlighted that belief.
