The 7-year-old son of Grammy-winning record producer Bill Bottrell fell to his death from a cliff on the Mendocino Coast in Northern California.

Bottrell’s son, William, wandered away late Friday afternoon and was found at the bottom of the cliff later in the day. Authorities believe he may have been trying to reach the water for a swim when he fell 70 feet to the rocky bluffs below.

Bottrell co-wrote the songs on Sheryl Crow’s “Tuesday Night Music Club” and won a Grammy for producing her 1994 Record of the Year “All I Wanna Do.” He also co-produced Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous” and “History” albums.

He and his wife recently moved from Hollywood and were in the process of renovating a building into a music studio. In an interview last year, Bottrell said he left the music industry so he could spend more time writing and performing his own songs.
