A 47-year-old woman who was arrested on outstanding warrants died in a hospital shortly after being found unconscious in her jail cell at the Temple City sheriff’s station, authorities said Tuesday.

The San Gabriel Valley woman, whose name was not released, was taken into custody before 1 a.m. Friday morning for outstanding warrants for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, Sheriff’s Sgt. David Halm said.

She was found unconscious in her cell during a jail security check Monday morning, Halm said. Paramedics took her to a nearby hospital where she died, he said.

Detectives were investigating the death and an autopsy was scheduled. Family members told investigators that the woman had been the victim of an unreported assault last month in which she may have suffered a head injury, Halm said.
