Arizona Plans Two-Quarterback System

Whether they like it or not, sophomore Ortege Jenkins and junior Keith Smith share the No. 1 quarterback title as Arizona begins its fall football practice, and Coach Dick Tomey said it could stay that way through the season.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t really like it,” Jenkins said.

But Tomey said both players have earned the right to play and there’s no way to give both of them a fair chance without letting them both see action once the season begins.

“If one of them is clearly better, that will be apparent to everybody” and the two-quarterback system will end, Tomey said.
