Pomona police said they have confiscated $183,000 worth of counterfeit computer chips and software from 14 locations.

The seizure was the culmination of a three-month investigation that began with a sting at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds computer show.

Pomona Police Det. Don Sevesind, working with investigators from Intel and Microsoft corporations, developed a series of leads from that sting operation.

Detectives on Thursday confiscated 273 units of counterfeit Microsoft software valued at $122,815 and 119 counterfeit Intel Pentium II processors valued at $60,000, according to Sevesind.

Search warrants were served at seven locations in Walnut, two in City of Industry and one each in Glendora, Roland Heights, Rosemead, Irvine and Chino Hills, police said. The Irvine Police Department also served a search warrant Wednesday using information developed from the sting and seized 125 counterfeit Pentium II processor chips.

In the original sting operation, Intel representatives purchased counterfeit computer chips, police said.
