Troubles of Mondesi, Sheffield Inspire Little Fan Sympathy

Share

Who appointed Jason Reid chief apologist for the Dodgers’ criminal element?

First he goes on and on about Gary Sheffield’s psychotic attack on Cub catcher Jason Kendall. [Next] he devotes most of his “game coverage” to Raul Mondesi’s “I am not a crook” lamentations about his drunk-driving misadventure.

Why don’t you tell us about the game, Jason? Johnnie Cochran already owns this niche.

Poor Raul Mondesi. How misunderstood he is. Let’s see: His team has never won a playoff game with him in the lineup. He celebrated his meaningless 30-30 campaign last year in the very game the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs. He has more strikeouts than RBIs, and oh, by the way, he gets pulled over for erratic driving and is found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.083, yet no criminal charges are filed.

Every driver in the state knows that the legal limit is 0.08. No wonder he is being booed.

Hey Raul, we think you are a wonderful ballplayer. Maybe something didn’t happen when the cops picked you up with a 0.083 blood-alcohol test. You’re lucky. When you’re driving after drinking, you’re dangerous. The fans have a right to boo. If this had been a truck driver, he would have paid a fine, gotten his license suspended and been fired, as he should have.

You’re a star, so act like one. Get off your high horse and play ball. The fans will forgive you, but if you act like a spoiled brat, take the consequences.

First Bobby Bonilla disses the L.A. boo-birds by saying that New York’s are much more effective, then he says that he doesn’t understand the booing in the first place because he’s trying hard. What these guys don’t seem to get is that anyone drawing the astronomical salaries they receive isn’t paid to try, he’s paid to produce. I’d be delighted to try to play baseball for the Dodgers for a modest contract in the mid-six figures.
