Put a Dunce Cap on T.J. Simers
I am a schoolteacher, and after reading the “Mouth from the South,” I thought of an equation for T.J. Simers: Assumption of controversy plus loaded questions divided by personal jealousy equals poor sports journalism.
I am envious of T.J.’s forum. After all, he is a featured writer for a major-market newspaper. He has access to a world that is inaccessible to 99% of the public. It would seem to me that all he has to do is show up, write his stories and eat the free food the clubs provide.
Yet in column after column, T.J. spews his dullard sarcasm, as if his being in the know is sufficient to satisfy the curiosity of readers of The Times. Never mind that T.J. does not play the games he covers, that he is not reporting news but creating “buzz.”
I write this not in defense of Ryan Leaf, the Chargers or anyone T.J. has befouled with his rancid reporting. I write this as a sports fan who is sick and tired of poor writing and a lack of journalistic integrity.
