Grant for Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival

* The Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival received a $5,000 grant from American Express Co. The festival, which recently concluded its second season, is a cooperative production of the Santa Susana Repertory Company and the Cal Lutheran University theater department. The free theater productions are held outdoors at Cal Lutheran.

Community Foundation Presents Awards

* The Ventura County Community Foundation has announced the recipients of its Women’s Legacy Fund Grant awards.

The Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence received $7,973 to begin an outreach and intervention program in Port Hueneme for girls ages 12 to 18, who have been abused and or molested.

El Centrito De La Colonia received $4,015 to develop a Latinas’ leadership group that will assist young women in developing “proactive resiliency building and coping skills” and a mentoring program with Latina professional women.

Harrington Family Center received $7,500 to implement a mentoring mothers and daughters project that links women and girls to a series of educational, social, medical and counseling services.

Interface Children Family Services received $6,612 to establish the SafeJourney-Mentoring for Battered Women in Transition Project.

The fund was established in 1995 to build a permanent endowment that would focus on the special needs of women and girls in Ventura County.
