Schwartz Wins Scratch Main at Speedway

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won the four-lap scratch main in front of 6,215 in the weekly speedway motorcycle program Saturday at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Charlie Venegas of San Bernardino was second, Chris Manchester of Mammoth third and Gary Hicks of Riverside fourth.

San Juan Capistrano’s Brad Oxley won the eight-lap handicap main event. John Aden of Apple Valley was second, Shawn McConnell of Brea was third, Rick Pearce of Bakersfield was fourth and Andy Northrup of Ontario was fifth.

Costa Mesa’s Alan Hall and Fullerton’s Dirk Votaw won the sidecar main.

Scott Pruett is leaving Patrick Racing for the Santa Margarita-based Arciero-Wells team in 1999.

Pruett will replace Robby Gordon of Orange and team with three-year MCI Racing Team-Arciero-Wells veteran Max Papis of Newport Beach on the two-car Toyota team.
