Dumais Is Out With Foot Problem

Troy Dumais of Ventura, leading going into the final day of the men’s three-meter springboard event in the U.S. Diving Summer Nationals in Atlanta, withdrew Saturday because of swelling in his left foot.

In the absence of the Texas-bound Dumais, who won the spring indoor national championship and was the silver medalist at the Goodwill Games last month in New York, David Pichler of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., won the title over Mark Ruiz of Orlando, Fla.

SWIMMING

Jennifer Parmenter of Granada Hills finished eighth in the 200-meter individual medley at the U.S. Championships in Fresno.

Her time was 2:18.28.

BASKETBALL

Tara Harrington has been hired as an assistant to women’s Coach Michael Abraham at Cal State Northridge.

Harrington, 23, is a 1997 graduate of Stanford.

BASEBALL

Mike Byer, a graduate of Royal High, pitched a five-hitter and the Sylmar Stallions defeated Chaffey of Seattle, Wash., 7-2, to win the U.S. Amateur Baseball Federation 18-and-under World Series on Saturday at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

Byer (2-0), who struck out six, was selected most valuable player.

Andy Campanella, a Crespi graduate, had three hits and two RBIs.
