A Latino man was found slain Sunday morning in an Irvine field, police said.

The victim, who police have not identified but believe was in his late 20s to early 30s, was shot multiple times in the upper and lower body, police said.

The body was found near California 133 and the old Laguna Canyon Road by a farm worker about to plow the fields around 7:30 a.m.

Police said the man, who was wearing jeans and a short-sleeve shirt, was face down next to an irrigation reservoir. It is the second homicide in Irvine this year.

Police Sgt. Al Murray said the few agricultural fields left in Orange County are sometimes favored by criminals to dump bodies or commit crimes.

“Our agricultural fields have lent themselves to this kind of thing in the past,” he said. “It’s a remote area where a lot of people do not frequent.”

Murray asks anyone with information to call (949) 724-7166 or (949) 724-7171.
