Cooler Temperatures Predicted Until Friday

A shift in the weather pattern will spell relief in the form of cooler weather conditions in the Valley this week, but triple-digit temperatures may return by Friday, forecasters said.

The ridge of high pressure, which brought scorching heat and temperatures in excess of 100 degrees last week, has been replaced by a trough of low pressure off the West Coast, said Jeff House, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times.

“You’re getting cooler air from the ocean and the lack of a high pressure also cools things off,” House said. “Some of the areas in the Valley may see temperatures that are below average for this time of the year.”

Sunny skies and afternoon temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to the mid-90s are expected in the Valley through Thursday, he said.

The hottest spot in the Valley should be Chatsworth, which is expected to reach a high of 94. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected in Woodland Hills, Van Nuys and Burbank.

Morning lows through Friday are expected to range from the mid- to upper 60s.

Beginning Friday, a ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the West Coast, bringing warmer temperatures, House said. Friday’s highs in the Valley are expected to range from the mid-90s to the low 100s, he added.
