Attorney Appointed to Airport Council

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick named Encino attorney and political activist Coby King to the Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council on Monday.

King, vice president of a Century City public affairs firm, Rogers & Associates, will join the 18-member panel at its next meeting Sept. 8.

King replaces George Jerome, appointed by Chick five years ago. Jerome has been chairman of the panel for the last year.

Chick earlier this month removed Jerome, a recreational pilot, from the council, saying she wants to give other community leaders an opportunity to serve.

Some airport supporters, however, said they fear a new appointee may give weight to noise-control advocates.

King is a specialist in election and administrative law. He serves as an advisor to the state Democratic Party, is active in the Jewish Federation and worked in the Clinton-Gore 1996 California campaign.
