An off-duty Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy shot and injured a man who allegedly was trying to burglarize the lawman’s home Tuesday morning, police said.

Anaheim resident Brooks Johnson Beck, 22, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary and treated at UCI Medical Center in Orange, said Buena Park Police Sgt. Ken Coovert.

The burglar climbed through the back window of the officer’s one-story home on San Francisco Drive, Coovert said. He had begun stacking household property, including firearms, in a back room when the officer, whose name has not been released, arrived home at 11:20 a.m.

The officer noticed that items were in disarray. The burglar then confronted the officer, who shot one round of ammunition into the man’s chest, Coovert said.

When police arrived minutes later, the burglar was wounded but conscious.
