Fraternity Stripped of Operating Permit
Despite several chances to clean up its act, a Cal State Fullerton fraternity known for its rowdy parties has lost its permit to operate its frat house.
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to revoke Tau Kappa Epsilon’s permit to operate on Teri Place.
Fraternity president Edgar Khalatian said the organization will consult with officials at its national headquarters and consider filing a lawsuit over the city’s action. “We feel our constitutional rights are being violated,” he said.
The city’s Planning Commission had revoked the fraternity’s permit in November after police said they had received dozens of complaints from neighborhood residents about rowdy parties. In the previous two years, police had investigated rape allegations and a threat on an officer’s life.
The group appealed to the City Council, which voted in February to give Tau Kappa Epsilon, known as Teke, six months to reform. Since then, however, police say they have received 10 complaints of rowdy parties.
