Penn State Senior Fullback Transfers
Anthony Cleary, a senior expected to start at fullback for No. 13 Penn State, is transferring to Division II Shippensburg (Pa.).
“We certainly understand his intention to do what is best for him and his family and wish him good luck,” Coach Joe Paterno said of the 6-foot-1, 248-pound fullback.
Penn State officials did not say why Cleary, 21, planned to leave.
The Altoona Mirror reported that Cleary did not pass all of Penn State’s mandatory conditioning tests last week and faced being dropped on the depth chart. He will be allowed to play this year because Shippensburg is Division II.
