Residents Can Trash Their Junk for Free
Port Hueneme city employees will accept old couches, mismatched auto parts and other throwaway items at the annual Neighborhood Cleanup Day on Saturday.
The cleanup gives residents a free chance to dispose of larger, nontoxic garbage such as furniture, tree stumps or appliances, said city Refuse Supt. Jim Passanisi.
A special pickup for such items usually comes with a fee, Passanisi said, leading some residents to pile them up in backyards or leave them on sidewalks or roadsides.
“This helps keep the community cleaner and safer,” he said.
City residents can take garbage to one of 14 bins around the city. The free service begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Call 986-6507 for more information.
