Bright Wright Light

Share

Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs are brought to light in a series of lamps by Yamagiwa. This debut collection includes a road range of pieces by Wright, for Taliesin East, his early home in Wisconsin, and his later winter residence and studio in the foothills of Scottsdale, Ariz.

The floor lamp (49 inches tal, $1,560), with its square shade, is reminiscent of the roof of a pagoda, one of Wright’s signature tectonic forms. The lamp gives off soft diffused light suitable for reading.

The mini lamp ($350 each), also with pagoda-style laminated shade, has a birch shaft and has been adapted for table use.

The Taliesin West floor lamp reflects its environment. With a system of vertical rods that supports the structure, the lamp has the angularity of the saguaro cactus of the Arizona desert.

The Storer wall sconce was inspired by the Storer House built in 1924 in Los Angeles. The sconce ($740; 9 3/8 inches tall, 6 1/16 inches wide and 9 inches deep) mimics the house’s construction of concrete blocks, supported by narrow steel rods.

If you have a devil of a time waking up, let Taz whirl some tunes for you.

Westclox, the largest producer of bedside alarm clocks in the nation introduces the Tasmanian Devil clock radio (about $35) featuring the Warner Bros. character. The clock, with its devilish charm, features an oversized LED display, snooze repeat alarm, sleep timer and battery backup.

It’s definitely a clock with some bite t it. The Taz clock is available at Walmart.

Made of Iron

PierceMartin’s latest iron pieces are wrought in refinement. The clean, delicate-looking lines graciously conceal the sturdy construction in the latest furnishings by the Atlanta-based manufacturer.

For instance, the roomy Tivoli chaise, ideal for a patio or poolside lounging, appears airy and elegant, yet offers ultimate comfort with its plus seat cushion. The rounded backrest gives the chaise ($1,800) a European flair.

The Martini bar stools combine solid utility with artful design. The slender iron legwork recalls a Giacometti-style minimalism, and the broad backrest and deep seat cushion provide relaxed comfort. The stools are offered in 34-inch ($1,100) and ($1,150) heights.
