Judge Finds Flaws in Parking Contract
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has sided with competitors angry over the awarding of a controversial parking contract at Los Angeles International Airport and ruled that there were inaccuracies in the City Council’s approval of a $71.5-million contract.
Superior Court Judge David P. Yaffe indicated that he would grant a preliminary injunction, barring Five Star Parking from the airport contract.
The City Council recently awarded the heavily lobbied contract to Five Star over the objections of several competitors. Five Star, the choice of the airport staff, was the lowest bidder for the five-year parking contract.
But other parking companies, including Ampco Parking, which sued the city, complained that the process was unfair because Five Star was allowed to amend its contract during the bidding process.
