Two players kicked off the North Carolina team last week for failing to complete community service requirements after an assault conviction were sentenced to 10 days in jail in Hillsborough, N.C.

Reserve defensive tackles Ricco McCain and Varian Ballard were found guilty earlier this year for the assault of a student outside a Chapel Hill night club in December.

Both apologized before Orange County District Court Judge Joe Buckner for not complying with their original sentence, which included restitution, writing a book report and performing 24 hours of community service.

Because the judge activated the sentences, the two men will not have to finish the community service and Ballard will not have to pay restitution. McCain paid his restitution last week.

Rico Felice, a senior defensive end for Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, was suspended from the team indefinitely for violating team rules, Coach Larry Welsh said.
