Kiwanis Club to Offer Free Vaccinations

Share

The Brea Kiwanis Club is giving its best shot to serve the health needs of the community--literally, with a free vaccination clinic Saturday.

The group will offer injections for polio, meningitis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, tetanus and diphtheria.

The Orange County Health Care Agency recommends polio, HIB meningitis and hepatitis B immunizations for infants 2 months old. It also recommends measles, mumps and rubella shots for 1-year-olds and tetanus shots every 10 years for adults.

A new Health Care Agency regulation mandates hepatitis B vaccinations for all incoming seventh-graders for 1999 and later. The hepatitis B vaccinations are injected in a series of three and must be completed 2 to 6 months apart.

To facilitate this, the Brea Kiwanis Club has scheduled two immunizations clinics each year, in the spring and fall.

The immunizations will be given at the Brea Baptist Church, 217 E. Birch St., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A parent or guardian must accompany children and bring immunization records.
