Forecast Calls for Highs in Triple-Digits

The weather outlook in the Valley this weekend can be described in two words: very hot.

Triple-digit temperatures are expected throughout the Valley through Sunday as a large ridge of upper level high pressure makes its way from Arizona, said Kevin Stenson,( a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which supplies forecast information to The Times.

Chatsworth, which is forecast to be the hottest spot in the Valley today, could see afternoon highs of 106, Stenson said. Slightly cooler temperatures are forecast in Woodland Hills and Van Nuys, which may reach a high of 103. Burbank, the coolest spot in the Valley, may hit 101 degrees.

Stenson said Saturday will be the hottest day of the weekend as the high pressure ridge is expected to be centered over Southern California.

“I would not be surprised to see some records fall Saturday,” Stenson said.

The hottest spot in the Valley on Saturday will again be Chatsworth, with a possible high of 110, which would tie the record set in 1985. Woodland Hills and Van Nuys should be slightly cooler at 107, and 104 is forecast for Burbank.

Afternoon temperatures will drop slightly on Sunday as the high pressure system makes its way out of Southern California, he said. Sunday’s highs are expected to range from 100 to 108 degrees in the Valley.
