Go Fish

It may turn out that fish may not only be healthy to eat, but also to watch. Fish owners apparently have lower blood pressure, less stress and fewer headaches, according to a random survey sponsored by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Assn. Other notable survey results reported that fish owners were less likely to suffer from insomnia, less likely to divorce and more likely to fight with their significant other in a healthy manner. Of course, all this could be a fish tale.

A Fine Little Whine

A new study confirms what journalists witness on a daily basis: The squeaking wheel gets the grease. Apparently, a kid’s whining can greatly influence the purchases made by parents, according to a study by Western International Media, a media management company. What kids tend to nag for the most: trips to fast-food restaurants (McDonald’s is the favorite); clothes by Levi’s, Disney and Osh-Kosh; and visits to theme parks. Most susceptible to kids’ nagging are younger parents, particularly nonworking moms, the study said.

Sleep Well

A good night’s rest, assuming you don’t live in a dormitory, depends mostly on a good pillow. At least that’s what Company Store of Wisconsin, a leading manufacturer of pillows, says. Apparently, the kind of pillow you should use depends on whether you sleep on your back, your side or your stomach. Company Store recommends the following: Back sleepers should use a medium-density pillow, stomach sleepers should use a “fine billowy down,” and side sleepers should use a firm pillow.

Men, Testosterone Levels and Fingers

Since the dawn of time, people have wondered what’s an easy way to tell--with everyone’s clothes on--if a man has a high testosterone level. Now, a possible answer emerges. Men have higher levels of testosterone if their ring finger is longer than their index finger, according to a scientist from Liverpool University in England. Also, the same scientist found that women have higher levels of estrogen if their index finger is longer than their ring finger. Keep that in mind if you’re looking for a mate.
