Bad Weather Won’t Stop Tree Lighting

The annual lighting of Camarillo Hospice’s Tree of Life is scheduled for Friday in Constitution Park.

But there is a backup plan should the weather not cooperate.

After the event was canceled last year because of El Nino-related storms, organizers decided to film a tree-lighting ceremony today, to be shown Friday on the local government channel if necessary. If skies are clear, the program that begins at 6 p.m. Friday in the park will be televised.

The Tree of Life ceremony is held in conjunction with the city’s annual tree-lighting at the Constitution Park Pavilion next to City Hall at 601 Carmen Drive. This year’s program will include music from the Pleasant Valley School District Band, the Camarillo High School Concert Choir and the Music and Visual Arts Kids. Also performing will be the Camarillo Carolers.

The hospice tree-lighting raises money for the organization by allowing people to pay $15 to honor someone. Hospice Executive Director Edy Santangelo said the group usually receives more than 1,000 names for the Tree of Life and this year hopes to raise more than $50,000. 9.
