* Re “Reno Won’t Pursue Gore Investigation,” Nov. 25:

There are many who think history repeats itself. Who’s to argue in the wake of Atty. Gen. Janet Reno’s narrowing the probe of Vice President Al Gore’s questionable campaign finance schemes and refusal to pursue it any further? Remember the infamous ruler by the name of Nero who purportedly fiddled while Rome burned in AD 64? Does anyone else see the similarity between that event and what the anagrammatic current-day Justice Department ruler named Reno has done in Washington?

Her penchant for narrowing probes of Democrats down to the point where she can decide that there is not enough evidence to pursue a given matter is very questionable at best. With this latest one rearing its ugly head, it is past time to start investigating her.

What a bitter disappointment that Reno declined to call for an independent counsel to investigate the vice president! I find it hard to understand, in view of the present independent counsel’s unifying, edifying and spiritually uplifting effect on the whole country.
