Making a Killer Mistake?

Share

Regarding Paul Brownfield’s finely written appreciation of Flip Wilson (“Flip Wilson’s Comedy Transcended Era’s Color Barrier,” Nov. 28), one small but important correction:

Brownfield writes that David Brenner recalls that, after “his show went off the air in 1974, Wilson got in a Cadillac convertible and wandered around the country,” and Brownfield reflects, “Even if not factual, the story makes sense.”

Anyone who knew Flip, as I did, in the years just before, during or after the period of “The Flip Wilson Show” (1970-74)--when he was also CEO of Little David Records (whose roster included George Carlin and Kenny Rankin)--will certainly recall that Flip only drove his beloved, powder-blue Rolls-Royce convertible (with the license plate “KILLER”). Flip was proud of his car, and it is in “KILLER” that he made his trek.
