Suit Contests Residency of School Board Member

Share

A resident has filed legal papers contesting the November election of Robert Miranda to the Alhambra school board, repeating an accusation made weeks before the election that Miranda does not live in the district and is therefore ineligible for the seat.

Miranda received 55% of the vote for the 5th District of the Alhambra city and high schools district in the Nov. 3 election.

John Nunez, president of the Garvey school board that serves some of the area’s elementary students, filed a lawsuit contending that Miranda lives outside the 5th District, in a home he owns with his wife on Alhambra’s Orange Avenue. Miranda registered his address in nomination papers on Cathryn Drive in South San Gabriel--within the 5th District. Nunez filed a lawsuit to remove Miranda from the ballot before the election but the case was not resolved in time.

In an earlier interview, Miranda said he lives at both locations and claimed the legal challenge was politically motivated.
