Tollway Fences Are Wasteful

Share

* Re “Stronger Tollway Fences Considered to Deter Wildlife,” Nov. 28:

I am definitely not a socialist by any stretch of the imagination, but $250,000 for fencing to keep a few animals from getting smacked on the Eastern toll road could put a lot of hot meals on the tables and presents under the trees of needy children in Orange County.

We live in one of the most affluent communities in the United States, yet we have children going to bed every night without a hot meal, and, even worse, many times without hope.

The animal problem will eventually correct itself; it is called entropy. It won’t be long before those animals dumb enough to cross the tollway in front of moving cars are gone. The species will continue to flourish because there will be those animals that use the undercrossings provided for them.

In turn, that practice will be inculcated upon following generations. Darwin had it right. Only the strong will and should survive.

Put that $250,000 to better use: Orangewood Children’s Home, Olive Crest Homes, the Orange County library system; you get the picture.
