When a mentally disabled teen told his mom that a schoolyard bully had been threatening him and taking his lunch money, she devised a trap, and the alleged bully walked right into it.

Police said a 15-year-old at East Hartford High was demanding money from the woman’s 17-year-old son every day, threatening him with a knife. The older teen is mentally disabled as a result of a childhood illness.

The bully at first demanded $5 per day but increased his demands, police said.

To trap the culprit, the mother gave her son two dollar bills and wrote her son’s name in black marker on each.

The bully took the money and struck the disabled teen with a hat because it wasn’t enough, police said.

The mother went to the school and asked the principal to check the bully’s pockets. He found the two bills with her son’s name on them, police said.

The student was charged with larceny by extortion and assault.

Police did not identify the student, the victim or his mother.
