HUNTINGTON BEACH
A local bus-shelter company is objecting to the city’s plan to award a 10-year contract to a competing firm based in New York.
Orange-based Eller Media Co., which has held the city’s contract for 16 years, said the New York firm has only one local franchise and would offer fewer services for the 230 shelters and 463 benches now at bus stops around the city.
City officials said they believe Culver Associates LTD will provide greater revenue. The New York firm has agreed to service the shelters and benches at no cost. Culver will pay a minimum of $462,600 during the first year of the contract and increase that over time for a 10-year total of $6.1 million.
