Kermit Marsh, the runner-up in last month’s City Council election, was chosen to be the newest council member Tuesday night. Marsh, a 33-year-old attorney, is filling the vacancy left by the resignation of former Councilwoman Margaret Shillington.

Thirteen people had applied for the position, but as the election runner-up and with 576 signatures turned in backing him, Marsh seemed to have popular support. He was sworn in immediately and took his place on the dais after the four sitting council members unanimously voted for him.
