Activity Center Unveiled at Renovated Park
Once plagued by gangs that scared local residents away, City Terrace Park reopened Wednesday with a newly renovated activity center, and ground was broken for a for a $2.3-million gymnasium.
Miguel Santana, spokesman for county Supervisor Gloria Molina, said that using funds from 1992 and 1996 voter approved measures, the park’s grounds received a face lift and the activity center was remodeled with new classroom space, restrooms and kitchen facilities.
Even though a number of senior citizen residential facilities are located nearby, Santana said, “seniors wouldn’t go near there. We’re celebrating the fact that we’ve been able to turn the park around.”
Santana said that the new gym is scheduled to be completed in 1999.
