The City Council gave the Public Works Department the green light Tuesday to accept a $1-million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Agency if the city’s proposal to improve roads and storm drains is selected.

In May, Stanton’s proposed 160-acre improvement project in the Cerritos Avenue Industrial Park area was voted the No. 1 public works project by the Orange County Overall Economic Development Program. The project was then selected for federal review.

The city’s $2-million proposal seeks to improve storm drains, widen streets and upgrade the industrial area around Beach Boulevard, Katella Avenue, Dale Street and Cerritos Avenue. If the proposal is selected in the spring, the Economic Development Agency will cover half of the estimated cost.
