No NFL Extension for Couch
Tim Couch will not get an extension from the NFL on the deadline for deciding whether to turn pro.
The league’s decision, confirmed by spokesman Greg Aiello, means Kentucky’s junior quarterback must decide by Jan. 8 whether to enter this spring’s draft or return to Lexington for his senior season.
Kentucky Coach Hal Mumme said the school had applied to the NFL for an extension because of uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff of the expansion Cleveland Browns, who hold the top pick.
Because of NFL tampering rules, the Browns cannot name a staff until after the Jan. 31 Super Bowl.
