Cathedral High to Honor Ex-Student Villaraigosa
Cathedral High School tonight will honor one of its former students who got into an unspecified “bit of trouble” there but who has since achieved prominence: Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa.
Villaraigosa was asked to leave Cathedral High by its Christian Brothers administrators but he continues to have “warm feelings for the school,” said Jesse Barragan, co-chairman of a scholarship banquet to be held at the Regal Biltmore Hotel. He recently visited with students there.
The Assembly speaker graduated from Roosevelt High and went on to community college and UCLA. He worked as a labor representative before going into politics.
Actor Edward James Olmos will be the keynote speaker. Information: (213) 673-7328, Ext. 20.
