City Renews Lease for Pistol Range
Despite complaints from neighbors about noise and other problems, the City Council has decided to continue the city’s lease with the operator of the Grant Park Pistol Range.
The council unanimously renewed the six-year lease with modifications Monday night after hearing pleas from residents to curtail the range’s hours of operation, to limit its use and to alleviate noise.
About 20 gun enthusiasts from as far away as Van Nuys and Santa Barbara spoke in favor of the city renewing its lease with Grant Park.
The new lease requires the company to install berms and large storage containers to serve as sound barriers. “If it does [lessen noise], we will be very happy,” said John Wagner, a Lewis Street resident who says he can hear the gunshots from his home. “If we are still hearing loud gunfire after the mitigation measures are put in place, I think we will probably start to become vocal again.”
