The Police Department expects to save more than $9,000 a year by converting its photography operations to a digital system, according to City Manager Ray Kromer. The department has been spending $20,000 a year on film and chemicals, but has found it can reap significant savings by investing $8,800 in a computer and photo scanner, he said. The department has already been awarded 10 digital cameras at no cost through a federal law enforcement grant.
