FMC Corp. said a federal judge in San Jose agreed to reduce a jury’s award against the chemical and machinery maker for misleading the U.S. Army about how safely its Bradley Fighting Vehicle could cross rivers. The judge didn’t specify what the final judgment would be, although Chicago-based FMC said it expects the award to be less than $90 million. In April, a jury hit FMC with a $125-million verdict that could have grown to more than $350 million because it was subject to doubling or tripling if it were allowed to stand.

Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Co. said the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana set an Oct. 23 trial date for its lawsuit against Spalding Sports Worldwide Inc., which alleges Spalding misused Callaway’s trademarks and misled consumers in marketing its so-called System C golf ball. The court also dismissed Spalding’s counterclaim against Callaway.

Los Angeles-based Idea Man Inc., a privately held promotional products company, has been acquired by HA-LO Industries Inc., an Illinois-based national distributor of promotional advertising products, for undisclosed terms.
