Upland 2, Mater Dei 1--After a scoreless first half, Upland got goals from Luis Armetha and Pedro Visoso. Mater Dei’s Matt Fennell scored midway in the second half, but Upland’s defense and goalkeeping were too strong.

In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:

Century 2, San Clemente 2 (Century wins on penalty kicks, 8-7)--Francisco Orosco saved two consecutive penalty kicks to preserve the semifinal victory for Century (5-1-2). Eduardo Martinez scored in the first half for the Centurions, and Peter Espinoza tied the score in the 61st minute for Century in the semifinal game.

Woodbridge 2, Fountain Valley 0--Ashkahn Moayedi scored twice, and Doug Allan had eight saves to put the Warriors into the championship game against Century.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Ocean View 6, La Quinta 0--Allison Nofziger scored two goals for Ocean View (3-6-1).

Sunny Hills 3, La Mirada 0--Simi Phull, Megan Broschak and Stacy Pelphrey each scored for Sunny Hills (3-0-3). Jill Wilson assisted on all three goals.

University 2, Newport Harbor 0--Kaley Pickett scored in the first half and Mary Yu in the second for University (3-2-3). Nicole Williams and Kate Cumsky had three saves each to earn the shutout for the Trojans.

Whittier 2, Whittier Christian 1--Megan Brennan scored in the first half for Whittier Christian (4-1-1) to give the Heralds the halftime lead, but Whittier (4-0) rallied in the second half to remain unbeaten. Bethany Girod had 13 saves for Whittier Christian.

Kennedy 15, Santa Ana 5--Karen Steen scored six of her seven goals in the first half to help Kennedy (1-3) to a nine-goal lead.

Costa Mesa 4, Corona del Mar 3--Erin Bayes scored in the final sudden-death periodr. Arin Hendrickson had 11 saves for Corona del Mar (3-4).

Mater Dei 13, Estancia 4--Nicole Norris and Tia Bollinger had four goals each to lead visiting Mater Die (1-2). Monarch goalkeeper Julia Kelly had 13 saves.

Esperanza 49, Valencia 22--Esperanza secured the victory with light- and middle-weight class wins. Travis Monson won a 10-0 major decision at 130 pounds and Justin Farrokhi won, 8-1, at 161 pounds for Esperanza.

Rancho Alamitos 66, Cypress 11--Albert Valencia won, 10-1, at 125 pounds for Rancho Alamitos.
