Practices have been canceled for much of the week at USC as players take their final exams, but that doesn’t mean basketball has fallen completely by the wayside.

“We didn’t have practice for a few days but still we’re working hard on individual stuff,” forward Sam Clancy said. “I need to be in the gym every day.”

The freshman from St. Edward High in Lakewood, Ohio, who moved into the starting lineup a few games ago, took his last exam of the fall semester Thursday. He has been learning lessons of a different kind from assistant coach David Miller.

“Right now, I’m trying to work on my post moves,” the 6-foot-7, 230-pound Clancy said. “We work on footwork a lot.”
