City Hall, which has been closed to the public on Fridays for the last 3 1/2 years, will reopen for public business on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting next month. Budget cuts and a state mandate to reduce vehicle pollution were originally behind the closure, but City Manager Keith Till said it caused too many problems for the public.

A new telephone system that saves staff time and some flexible scheduling has freed enough employees to handle public business on Fridays, Till said. City Hall will remain open Mondays through Thursdays its current hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
