A UCLA-Wisconsin Rose Bowl Is the Ticket to Controversy

History repeats itself and how incredibly predictable.

Only the names (and excuses) have changed to protect the guilty (since there are so few innocent) when it comes to UCLA fans (?) supporting their fantastic football team.

I’ve forgotten the reasons for true blue Bruin fans selling or returning tens of thousands of tickets allotted for the ’94 Rose Bowl versus these same Badgers but the 75,000 real fans in red and in the stands that year appreciated it.

The line this year, I suppose, reflects that Wisconsin is a weak, unworthy opponent and not worth the effort it takes to attend. And those horrendous ticket-price increases mentioned, presumably straight-faced, by UCLA administration apologists since we all know how poor most Westwood students and alumni are.

And last but not least, bitter disappointment in missing the championship Fiesta Bowl and having to go to that second-rate Rose Bowl, formerly known as the “granddaddy of them all” and, gosh, not even against Ohio State, a worthy opponent.

So as a Wisconsin fan with the $600 rented Winnebago ready to be parked for the pre- and post-party (win or lose), and contacts being hit all over town for more tickets for friends ready to spend a buck to see their disrespected underdogs play, I/we thank you Bruin fans, again, in advance and will look forward to that sea of red again in your house.

Our group of season-ticket holders were astonished at the increase in the price. Anything reasonable would have found us all there--cheering with the rest of the Bruin fans.

I was surprised to read that UCLA was responsible for setting the ticket price. The good thing about our price is that it is still less than the Wisconsin price--although theirs includes a free buffet--beer and bratwurst--all you can eat! I love the Bruins! Go beat the bejabbers out of the Badgers and I’ll be cheering in front of the TV!
