Bradford Salaman was always intrigued by beat poet William Burroughs. His interest in the poet’s life was the inspiration for his “Burroughs,” on display now at City Hall. Salaman was one of four Newport Beach artists to win the Fall 1998 Artist Juried Exhibition, which drew 127 entries from 47 residents and business owners. Thirty-six works were chosen for the show.

First place went to Michael Ward for his acrylic “Dollar Tip”; second went to Salaman for his mixed-media “Burroughs” work; third prize was awarded to Colleen Kennedy Premer for an intaglio, “Contemplating God”; and an honorable mention was given to Lynn Welker for her water media collage, “Mission Sunset.”

The show will continue through Jan. 4 at City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free. Information: (949) 644-3309.
