Idle Green Sent Down to Gain Experience

Left wing Josh Green, who played his way onto the roster during training camp, sat his way off it, being dispatched to Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Green, who began the season on the second line, was a healthy scratch for the last three games before being sent down Monday, a victim of a numbers game and of a decision to go with veteran players in hopes of salvaging what has been a miserable Kings’ season.

“We’re starting to get everybody back,” said Coach Larry Robinson, referring to the several injured Kings for which roster spots are needed.

”. . . . [In Springfield] he gets to play a lot. He didn’t play poorly. . . . and this isn’t a punishment. Right now, we feel like he needs to play a lot.”

Goalie Stephane Fiset, who has struggled all season with groin injuries, might be able to play Saturday night against the Colorado Avalanche at the Great Western Forum. He has been out since an injury during practice on Dec. 16. . . . Winger Sandy Moger, out since mid-November because of a back injury, probably will be available Saturday also.
