Re “VOTE Should Open Books,” Jan. 25.

The Times is correct in demanding that Valley VOTE open its books to public view. And The Times should do the same.

You are very vocal about your opposition to San Fernando Valley secession, but how many of your editorials have even hinted that secession might have a negative impact on the circulation of a newspaper with the name “Los Angeles” on its masthead? How will the building of a new sports complex downtown impact the financial interests and property holdings of Times Mirror Inc.? Did it influence your decision to support the project and its use of taxpayer money to build it? Who knows. You have not addressed the issue of your own special interests.

Just as Valley VOTE has a moral obligation to disclose its financial records to the public, The Times too has an ethical obligation to completely disclose all relevant information regarding positions it has taken on public issues.
