Quicker Trip From Heathrow to London

Share

A new FastTrain rail-bus service between Heathrow Airport and London’s center cuts travel time to about 30 minutes. Even quicker service is scheduled for summer.

The above-ground train, operated by BAA (formerly British Airports Authority), runs between Paddington Station and a point two miles outside the airport, where passengers switch to a bus. FastTrains run every 15 minutes from 5:10 a.m. to 10:40 p.m. The fare is about $8.75 each way, compared to about $5.60 to the downtown Piccadilly Station on the subway.

Although the subway is cheaper, the trip is longer, about 45 to 50 minutes. At Paddington, passengers can connect with trains to Wales and to southwest England.

By June, BAA hopes to finish laying track for the service’s final leg and launch the all-train Heathrow Express, cutting the airport-downtown trip to 15 minutes.
