Panel to OK Plans for Gas Station, Carwash

Share

The Planning Commission is expected tonight to approve plans for a gas station and carwash near the Dawson Drive exit off the Ventura Freeway--although residents view the project as noisy and needless.

The size and design of the project prompted commissioners to postpone a decision at their Jan. 6 meeting.

At that meeting, planning officials directed American National Oil Co. to reduce the height of its building and the size of the facility’s retail section, and to add architectural changes to improve the appearance of columns and a wall visible along the freeway.

The architectural designs will be reviewed tonight for the project proposed near the intersection of Flynn Road and Mission Oaks Boulevard.

Despite residents’ concerns about the potential for increased noise, the city’s acoustical analysis indicates the carwash is far enough away from the residential neighborhood that it will not be a nuisance.

As for traffic, the city is expected to redesign the interchanges at Flynn Road and at Mission Oaks and also at Mission Oaks and Dawson Drive by June 1999 to relieve much of the congestion.
