Comments Sought on Bike Path Plan

Bike routes in the city will be discussed at a public workshop Wednesday in Camarillo City Hall’s council chambers.

City staff and consultants will discuss the Bikeway Master Plan, which includes several new facilities and routes that will be built in the next 20 years.

“We’re updating the existing master plan, which was done in the late ‘80s,” said Kathy Lowry, a traffic engineering associate. “It’s a planning document to look at what’s out there and what needs to be out there.”

The plan considers how to incorporate bike routes when new streets are built and how to take existing streets and add bike routes to them, Lowry said.

Along with using the routes for recreation, a number of Camarillo residents commute to work and children take the paths to school, she said.

Bicyclists of all ages and experience, as well as non-cyclists, are invited to bring their comments, questions and ideas to help create a plan that will promote “bicycling as a viable transportation alternative,” Lowry said.

The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m.
